24 years of service in the Indian Army – now using the same discipline to host guests at Chandrakala Homestay.
Chandrakala Homestay is hosted by Sanjay Pradhan, son of Padma Kumari Pradhan. He was raised by his mother as a single parent and went on to serve in the Indian Army for 24 years.
After retiring from the Army, Sanjay ji decided to return to his home in the hills and start a small homestay where guests could experience real village life, calm weather and slow mornings with tea garden views – not just a busy tourist town hotel.
His focus is simple: welcome every guest with respect, keep the place disciplined and peaceful, and make sure people feel safe, well-fed and properly guided during their stay.
A small family-run homestay where the owners personally host, cook and guide every guest.
The homestay is run by three people:
Together, they handle everything – from cooking and cleaning to guiding guests and arranging local experiences. Sanjay ji also works as a local guide, helping guests choose the best viewpoints and day trips according to the weather and time they have.
Guests are welcomed in a traditional way with khada (traditional Nepali scarf) and warm greetings. The family believes in “Atithi Devo Bhava” – every guest is respected like family.
At the same time, they request guests to treat the homestay like their own home – keep it clean, be mindful of noise and follow simple house rules so that everyone staying there can enjoy peace and comfort.
